Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I'm still alive. I've been working with graphics recently, and hopefully I'll be able to post a big post with some of the ones I've made soon.

well...I finally got around to changing my layout. hopefully I'll be able to make a new header soon as well as update my LJ with some of the graphics I've made.

Tut #3 - How to make a moving avvy

Here's how to make a moving avvy using GIMP

making this:

Step 1: Open the image you want to use for the first picture
using this image:

Step 2: Open the next picture you want to use by opening it as a new layer

Step 3: Repeat step 2 until you have all of the layers you want

Step 4: Decide how fast you want each layer to move (in milliseconds (ms)). Double click on the layer name and then add how fast you want each layer to go in ( )

Step 5: Playback your animation to see if it's the right length for you (Filters - Animation - Playback)

Step 6: If it's going at the speed you want, then save it as a .gif image.

Step 7: Enjoy your animation!

ok... so I had this brilliant idea tonight...or so I thought, until I actually started to make the darn thing. I wanted to try to make an animation of the Obi-Wan/Anakin lightsaber duel from SW ep3...but quickly gave up after screencapping the first couple minutes (if that) of the battle. the end result ended up being 70 layers, so I can only imagine how big it would be if I did the entire battle....

making

Step 1: create new image sized 500x500 (it's easier to work with when it's larger)

Step 2: Create a sphere using Map Object (Filter - Map - Map Object)

Step 3: Use Script-Fu to make the sphere "Frosty"

make sure that your background color is set to white (#ffffff)

Step 4: Merge all visible layers

Step 5: Sharpen your image (Filters - Enhance - Sharpen)

Step 6: Add a supernova (Filters - Light Effects - Supernova)

Be sure the color is #5963ff and that the supernova is in the approximate center of the circle

Step 7: Make your image seamless (Filters - Map - Make Seamless)

your image should look like this:

Step 8: scale down your image to whatever size you want (or keep it at 500x500) and save

Making a banner using blending- Tut #1

This is a slightly different way to blend...

going from to

Step 1: Create new layer

Step 2: Size layer to 300x100

Step 3: Flood fill new layer with the foreground color (#000000 or black)

Step 4: Open base image (in this case, I'm using a base of Pippin that I made)

Step 5: Copy and paste base image into your 300x100 layer

Step 6: Make your Floating Selection (pasted layer) into a New Layer (right click pasted layer and click on New Layer)

Step 7: Move your pasted layer over toward the left hand side. to move, click on the 4 head arrow

Step 8: Click on the grey rope looking icon (the one with a knot). Make sure that Feather Edges is checked, and select the part of the base image you want

Step 9: Press ctrl + i to invert and then press ctrl + k to clear the outer edges of the image. With the free select icon still selected (grey rope with knot), press in the center of the image so that it anchors down the free select

Here's how mine turned out:

Step 10: I added text to the right hand side of the banner. Bradley Hand ITC, size 28, centered

Step 11: Flatten the image

Step 12: Save your image as a .jpg or .png depending on your preference

This is a slightly different way to blend...
